“The search for the Golden Chest”
Today, antique chests are not simply good story telling material for mystery novels, but are themselves a treasure of their own. Collectors, antique investors, and just lovers of fine furniture have created a vibrant market for good quality antique chests.
It’s almost like the hunt for old treasure chests continues to this day. The 17th and18th century was the peak for chest production and antique chests from this era (and into the early 19th century) are the most highly sought after. These chests were made from valuable high quality wood (often oak) with the trademark metal hinges.
Interestingly enough, while a good antique chest was highly valued by the aristocracy, having a chest in the home was seen as somewhat of a status symbol, so many people who were considered to be of a lower social status owned chests as well. Chests were used to store valuable possessions, clothes, and even weapons.
The wonderful history of the antique chest has captivated the young and old enough. You can find them right here on this site. Let the treasure hunt begin.
